U S Census - LGBT Austin Town Hall
Your participation in the 2010 Census is critically important! That's why Equality Texas and the U.S. Census are hosting the first LGBT Town Hall in the country!
Come learn about important changes made by the U.S. Census Bureau that will affect how lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are counted.
The Census Bureau recently announced a policy change. When gay and lesbian couples indicate they are married on the 2010 form, the Census will count them as married. This makes the Census the first Federal agency to recognize marriage of gay and lesbian couples.
While the Census does not ask anyone for their sexual orientation, it is important to note that knowing which "boxes" to check on the Census form will directly affect the counting of LGBT households.

02/19/2010 |
5:30pm Friday; 9am to 5pm Saturday |
|
The members of the University of Texas at Austin's
and
with co-sponsors
Texas State University and the University of Houston,
invite you to attend the
Second Annual Texas Equity Conference.
Continuing the momentum created at last year’s conference, we are urging every public and private university in Texas to send one or more representatives. This conference provides an opportunity to develop a comprehensive working plan to secure competitive insurance benefits for state university employees and to develop your campus initiatives on equality issues. The conference is designed for university faculty and staff, and one student leader per school may also attend.
The agenda includes:
• developing regional coalitions to help support each other in our ongoing activities; • information about successful competitive insurance benefits initiatives at other universities; • information about “soft benefits” and other ways to improve your university’s equality standing beyond competitive insurance; • and an Equality Project training session led by Equality Texas Foundation on effectively building relationships with your state representatives.
Held at the AT&T Conference Center on the UT Austin campus, the event will begin with a Meet-and-Greet on Friday, February 19th at 5:30 pm, followed by some opening remarks from UT President William Powers, Jr. and an all-day session and lunch on Saturday, February 20th, from 9am – 5pm. Registration is $75 per person. The AT&T Conference Center has set aside a block of rooms for conference participants at $159 per night.
Student participants are eligible for UT Austin dormitory accommodations at no cost during the conference. Please contact Samantha Perry of the UT Housing and Food Division at sperry@austin.utexas.edu to make arrangements.
