Voter ID

SB 407 – Rodriguez
In 2011 the Texas Legislature passed a law requiring voters to present one of four forms of state issued photo ID to vote. Previously only a voter registration card was needed. Over a quarter of Texans with a history of gender transition do not possess one of the accepted forms of identification. This creates an unnecessary barrier to civic participation. SB 407 would allow a court ordered “change of sex” to be used, along with other documents, to prove identity for the purpose of voting.
