Take Action: Support Dripping Springs ISD Students
Posted on September 26, 2016 at 11:05 am

Today, September 26th at 6:00 p.m., the Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees will be confronted with the issue of basic rights and protections for transgender students. The issue has arisen out of accommodations provided in accordance with DSISD’s existing policy to a third-grade transgender student who uses the girls’ restroom consistent with her gender identity.

A disapproving group of parents recently discovered these accommodations and, over the last week, have engaged in an effort to bar the student from using the girls’ restroom. These disapproving parents erroneously claim that allowing a transgender student to use facilities consistent with their gender identity presents “safety” and “privacy” concerns for non-transgender students.

The opposition effort has quickly escalated from a meeting with the school principal, to a meeting with the District Superintendent, to taking the matter before the Board of Trustees this coming Monday. Those parents have enlisted the help of activist outsiders, including the extremist anti-LGBTQ group “Texas Values”.

A group of parents supportive of the fair and equal treatment of transgender students is planning to attend the school trustees’ meeting Monday evening to thank school administrators for valuing the safety and privacy of EVERY student, including those who are transgender.

We encourage you to join in this effort to support the fair and equal treatment of all students, including transgender students, by attending the Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees meeting this Monday evening, September 26th at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the DSISD Administration Building Board Room, 510 West Mercer Street, Dripping Springs, 78620. Supporters are encouraged to wear Dripping Springs maroon & gold as a visual sign of support.
