THE POSITION

The Digital Communications Associate will oversee the planning and execution of all online platforms and social media outreach and engagement strategies for Equality Texas, including website, email, social media, and blog. The coordinator will serve as an essential driver and member of the team responsible for the organization’s online and rapid response campaigns.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Craft original content for social media platforms (including original text, images, video and code) that garners high engagement and represents the voice and brand of Equality Texas. 
  • Identify high-impact opportunities to increase the visibility of the Equality Texas brand, our programs and campaigns, and our advocacy work.
  • Keep abreast of trends and emerging social media apps to generate compelling digital communications that will reach diverse audiences.
  • Working with the Communications Director, develop, implement, and manage the organization’s social media strategy. 
  • Publish, edit, and update website pages and blog posts, ensuring the website content is accurate and up to date.
  • Debug issues that arise with the performance of the website(s) including troubleshooting and coordinating with developers and hosting providers.
  • Collect and review analytics of website and social media platforms and make recommendations for improved performance.
  • Ensure that all social media channels remain responsive, collaborative, and engaging.
  • Write copy and create compelling brand-compliant graphics for social media and schedule social media posts.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop social media campaigns. 
  • Successfully execute live streaming events on social media (e.g., Facebook Live, Instagram, LinkedIn Live), work with the programs team to develop content, and create a playbook for how to replicate in various circumstances.  
  • Assist with areas of video production work by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on short-form video production.  
  • Identify compelling moments in real time and share them effectively on social media platforms (e.g., live tweeting, Instagram stories). 
  • Identify and engage in trending topics and social media moments relevant to our mission with the goal of reaching new audiences and being a part of the conversation. 
  • Create toolkits to make it easy for internal and external stakeholders to amplify content.  
  • Evaluate new media channels and establish a presence on any deemed worthy. 
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on social media analytics, then use that information to refine future campaigns.
  • Live tweet compelling moments in real time such as bill hearings, rallies, events etc.

CANDIDATE PROFILE/REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following experience and characteristics:

  • BA and/or training in business, advertising, marketing, or related fields
  • Skilled in speaking on LGBTQ+ issues, as well as other intersectional issues important to LGBTQ+ communities across Texas
  • 1 year experience in movement building: organizing, base-building, and direct actions
  • Familiarity working from an anti-oppression lens in pursuit of justice and liberation
  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and work independently as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Vision, creativity, enthusiasm, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Energy and excitement to work with a growing organization
  • Able to work a flexible schedule with evening and some weekend availability
  • Hands-on knowledge using social media platforms in a professional setting and the ability to identify and deploy new platforms as needed
  • Technical proficiency in WordPress, and databases, blog platforms, SEO, web metrics software, and visual design programs
  • Experience and comfort with HTML and CSS
  • Ability to design simple graphics (with Illustrator, Canva, Adobe Spark)
  • A strong work ethic, honesty, integrity, a high energy level, and a commitment to teamwork
  • Experience working in or demonstrated ability to understand web, social media, digital content management, Google analytics, Google AdWords, Grants and/or Remarketing

COMPENSATION

Equality Texas is offering an industry competitive compensations package based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, with a salary of $40,000 – 45,000, plus medical coverage with FSA option, vision, dental, life, short term disability, and generous PTO.
