Dallas, TX (April 23, 2016) – Equality Texas, the largest statewide organization dedicated solely to fighting for LGBT equality in Texas, condemns Tracy Murphree, Denton County Sheriff Candidate, for inciting violence against transgender Texans. Tracy Murphree used his Facebook account on April 22 to say he would violently attack a transgender person who uses the same bathroom as his daughter.

“No Texan should ever have to live in fear of violence because of their gender identity or gender expression. At Equality Texas we believe it is inappropriate and unacceptable for any law enforcement official to make inflammatory statements that condone violence,” said Steve Rudner, Equality Texas Board Chair.

Overwhelmingly, Texans believe that everyone throughout the state should be able to live without fear of discrimination or fear of being a victim of crime.

Equality Texas is working with Resource Center and other local organizations on further planned actions in response to Mr. Murphree’s public attacks. For more information contact DeAnne Cuellar.
