HB 679 by Rep. Sylvester Turner is scheduled to be considered by the Texas House on Wednesday, April 15th. So it is more important than ever that your lawmakers hear from you about the bill! HB 679 authorizes a study to collect data on the number of homeless youth in Texas, their needs, and potential sources of funding to provide services to them.

We don’t know nearly enough about the number and needs of homeless youth in Texas. Although there are resources for homeless people throughout the state, few are directed specifically at youth – who have unique needs. An estimated 40% of homeless youth are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender- and HB 679 will explore the needs these youth have in Texas and how we can help.
