Equality Texas has been fighting to secure full and lived equality for LGBTQIA+ Texans in all areas of the law for over 46 years. We have been able to do this work despite a hostile landscape, because we have the power of our community. A community that shows up, speaks out, pushes back, and holds the line no matter how hard things can be.
The theme for Equality Texas’ 6th Annual Gala is “Texas Hold ‘Em,” because 2025 will be about holding the line. And we won’t back down. Since 2017, anti-LGBTQIA+ extremists have pursued a nationally coordinated strategy to spread disinformation and fear about our community, particularly transgender youth and adults, culminating in a cruel and sophisticated attack. This is not the Texas we deserve; it is not the Texas we need. When we all work together, contributing time and the funding needed for the fight, we can and will succeed.
The Gala is not only about preparing for what’s to come, though. It is also an opportunity to gather together in queer joy and celebrate all the hard work in the last year–and there is much to celebrate. So, mark your calendars and start shining your boots and belt buckles!
