Austin, Texas – August 28, 2018 – Equality Texas Foundation and Texas Health Institute announced today an exciting new $250,000 contract awarded to the Texas Health Institute and the Equality Texas Foundation for TransFORWARD: A Statewide Transgender-Powered Research Collaborative in Texas. The project will engage transgender Texans in a ground-breaking research capacity-building project to improve the lives and health of transgender Texans.

Texas is home to an estimated 140,000 transgender Texans including an estimated 13,800 youth. Transgender people reside across our state—in urban, rural, and suburban areas, not just in one or two large cities. And experts tell us that many of them experience significant barriers to medical care.
