TransForward – Texas Transgender Health, Equality Texas Foundation, and Texas Health Institute Launch Team 1,000

On Thursday October 24, 2017, TransForward – Texas Transgender Health, Equality Texas Foundation, and Texas Health Institute (THI) proudly launched the TransForward – Creating Culturally Competent Transgender Health website. LINK: transforward.texashealthinstitute.org

A majority of the Texas transgender population lacks access to health services at an affordable cost and has disproportionately poorer health outcomes compared to the broader population. This is especially true among our youth and people of color.

“We believe creating culturally competent transgender health is one of the most important programs THI can be involved in,” said John Oeffinger, THI’s Director of eLearning and Training and TransForward Co-Project Director. “We are excited to work with Equality Texas Foundation. Our collaboration is based on community engagement, education/training, patient-centered research, and health organization capacity building to improve the health of transgender Texans.”

“Moving culturally competent care for transgender, non-binary and intersex folks forward is the goal of the TransForward program.” said Lou Weaver, Equality Texas Transgender Programs Coordinator.

TransForward – Texas Transgender Health relies on community support. You can help move transgender health care forward by joining Team 1,000 at transforward.texashealthinstitute.org, or donating any amount through the new TransForward website. Your support helps us expand our statewide and national transgender learning collaborative enabling the transgender community, their families, medical and public health professionals, and allies to help create culturally competent healthcare and public health systems. Doing Together What We Cannot Do Alone, we can be #TransForward and improve the health of transgender Texans.

Spokespeople working on the TransForward program are available for public comment upon request.
